The box top

Another birthday comes and goes. Lots of great memories over the last 7 days. Not so much of all my day but just lots of friends and family. From the beach with so many family, to the night out with Jason, to the day on the beach with the Fehrles and then the next two days laughing with friends about my hijinks and honesty. I felt like you were all around us so many times. Now time for quiet and calm for rest of summer.

I always remember how you would say it’s just a job. I was talking about all your good times at super fresh. The island ave store came up a lot with Marissa. How her and Mar would rush down to see you and you’d come out with a piece of cheese for your two favorite mice. As Russ puts it, you were the “cheese plug”. That just made my day. And the store in Manoa where I would pick you up during those tough years. Ah, you’re so missed Mom.

So back to my birthday…me, Bia, Terry and Lucy had a delicious dinner at outback. So yummy. So we all finish up and say our goodbyes and I had to drop off my recycling at rose tree park. So I park, open the lid and see a box top. Not any box top. A strawbridge & clothier yellow box top. I was like wow. “I haven’t seen one of those since Xmas at 988 in the 90’s!”. I was like how is this box so pristine? So new? Not a mark on it. I was like wow. I took a pic of it and sent it to Lisa, Bia and Lam. And then I sent the pic to Theresa. She said “you’re gonna think I’m crazy but I asked for you to get a sign for your birthday…” I said, well, no better sign than a box top from one of your excellently wrapped gifts. I took it home. I’m like. Who is sitting there on a Monday night and is like “I’m gonna throw those boxes from the 90’s out that have been sitting around?” And it was right there on the top…not buried or hanging down lower. You know I wouldn’t have touched it. Hahah. It made my night along with a great dinner and nice birthday. Here’s to year 49. Miss you Mom.
